Two programs in the Online Residence with the Artez University of the Arts: a path of creativity, collaboration and co-creation is the Online Residence in partnership with the ArtEZ University of the Arts, which provides for a joint work of the students of the ‘Orazio Costa’ School for actors and those of ArtEZ, in two different directions.
1) Studio Practice, Experimentation & Feedback is a cycle of lessons for a guided research process, to critically develop appropriate dramaturgical and compositional methods, and to reflect on how a work is presented in relation to its content.
Focus of this module is a student-led research process providing students the opportunity to develop and produce a critical artistic research. The emphasis here is on process and reflection, rather than product. Moreover, the student-led research process provides students with the opportunity to further examine, experiment with, and reflect on their body practices by producing a rigorous artistic research. Students engage in intensive studio-based research and share findings on a regular basis as a way of developing their skills in articulating and disseminating their findings.
Alongside students’ own experimentation, this module is designed to explain the components of effective feedback and to provide evidence-based tips on how to give good feedback. It proposes different formats and frameworks for feedback sharing and receiving and guides students on how to evaluate performances critically and constructively. Students are also supported in their way to receive and implement feedback in a seamless way that does not hinder their creativity. In this module students engage with different methods and practices of feedback sharing. They learn how to give and receive feedback in efficient ways to enhance their research and weigh developmental forms. Students are supported throughout their residency.
Some key concepts that will be covered in the module include:
· experimentation
· collaboration
· feedback
Students are requested to demonstrate the ability to:
- Meet the challenge of collaboration, peer feedback and risk-taking in the creative process;
- Adhere and engage methodically and conceptually in studio experimentation;
- Refine and articulate practice through discussion, peer/tutorial feedback and appropriate documentation;
- Understand the demands and practices of working in an intensive artistic residency;
- Critically develop appropriate dramaturgical and compositional modes of working;
- Reflect presentational mode in relation to content;
- Utilize existing knowledge to generate and synthesize ideas in original, creative, and imaginative ways.
2) Ephemeral Collaborations (ephēmeros ‘lasting only a day’)
The idea is to create ephemeral collaborations, for the duration of 24 hours, in small groups, between students of MTP/ArtEZ and Teatro della Pergola-Firenze/Scuola Orazio Costa. Each group is asked to creatively respond to a topic and to upload their output to an online platform for a collective sharing.
The groups have one day to meet with their collaborators to co-create something. The format of the outcome can be anything (i.e short video, an mini online performance, a painting, a song, a poem, a photograph, a manifesto, and so on). The focus is on communication and collaboration, creativity, spontaneity and co-creation. A day of social proximity through the means of creativity.
